Repairing Leaky Gut…

Leaky gut is one of the biggest problems in the western world and can lead to many health problems.

There are many simple ways that we can start to rebuild our gut health. The first step is to eliminate the triggers contributing to damaging your gut health. This is known as the REMOVE phase. Here is a list of some of the key culprits that are robbing our bodies of true nourishment

– SUGAR

Sugar feeds the growth of bad bacteria and candida yeast weakening the digestive system and contributing to the development of leaky gut syndrome (holes in the gut lining). – HYDROGENATED

– OILS

Including tapered, soybean and vegetable oil. These will promote intestinal inflammation. Instead try coconut oil for cooking with or olive oil for eating at room temperature (salad dressings or for drizzling over vegetables)

– GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS

Eat fresh food products that are produced in the UK and as locally as possible and that are in season

Buy free range eggs

Try and buy quality grass fed meat that has been naturally raised

– TOXIC CHEMICALS

Commonly found in processed foods. In particular artificial sweeteners aspartame and sucralose

– TAP WATER

Unfiltered two water contains chlorine which is highly toxic to our gut. Invest in a good water filter or drink bottled water from BPA free bottles

– GLUTEN

Gluten and many refined grains are high in phytic acid which is difficult for the body to digest and also often causes inflammation. Try to get your fibre from plant based fibres

– STRESS

Our stress hormones cortisol and epinephrine largely affect the growth of beneficial bacteria and cause yeast to proliferate, contributing to holes in the intestinal walls. Invest in some ‘you’ time. Go for a walk in the fresh air, meditate, do some light stretching, take a relaxing bath. Anything to active your PNS (parasympathetic nervous system)
